29 Days in the Grand Canyon: Joe's Expedition
Spending 29 days rowing and camping in the Grand Canyon is a dream adventure for many—but for Joe D. of Phoenix, it initially seemed impossible. As someone who relies on a CPAP machine every night, the thought of spending nearly a month in the remote wilderness, far from any electrical outlet, raised serious concerns. However, with the right power solution, Joe was able to not only complete the journey but fully enjoy the experience without compromise.
Finding the Right Power for a 29-Day Expedition
“When my friend invited me on this private rowing expedition, I initially did not think it was possible,” Joe explained. “After I learned about the EXP PRO products, I was optimistic but still concerned about having limited sunlight inside the canyon because of the topography and time of year (January).”

To prepare for the trip, Joe equipped his boat with the EXP PRO Summit 100-Watt Solar Panel and the EXP240PRO CPAP battery, bringing along the EXP48PRO APEX as a backup. He knew the Grand Canyon’s deep walls could limit sunlight, and he needed a solution that was efficient enough to sustain him for nearly a month of complete off-grid living.
29 Nights Off-Grid with Reliable Power
“As it turns out, I had more than enough power for my needs,” Joe said. “My portable CPAP consumed only a small fraction of the EXP240PRO’s power every night.”
Joe’s charging strategy revolved around utilizing the solar panel at seven different campsites throughout the journey. By carefully positioning the EXP PRO Summit 100 Solar Panel whenever direct sunlight was available, he was able to keep his batteries nearly full the entire time. The efficiency of his setup not only gave him peace of mind but also exceeded his expectations.
“I brought a second battery as a backup, but I ended up having plenty of power. In fact, during the second half of the trip, I was able to share charges with my rowing teammates, allowing them to keep their cameras and cell phones charged.”
Technology That Made the Impossible Possible
For Joe, this wasn’t just about staying powered—it was about having the confidence to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey.
“I did not think it would be feasible to sleep 29 straight nights at the bottom of the Grand Canyon,” Joe reflected. “The technology allowed me to enjoy this adventure without worrying about my CPAP failing. And now, I’m also excited to use my smaller EXP48PRO APEX battery for weekend backpacking trips.”
Joe’s experience highlights just how much freedom EXP PRO power solutions can provide—whether it’s a month-long expedition in one of the most remote landscapes in the U.S. or a simple weekend trip into the backcountry.
