How this estimate works

Calculation

Runtime equals usable battery energy after the stated power-path efficiency, divided by estimated machine draw. The displayed ±15% planning range allows for normal variation in breathing, mask leak, altitude, temperature and automatic pressure changes.

CALCULATION METHOD

How CPAP battery runtime is calculated

The calculator estimates how long an EXP PRO battery can power your selected CPAP, APAP or bilevel machine. It combines usable battery capacity with machine-specific power data, therapy pressure, climate settings and the way the machine is connected.

Usable battery watt-hours × power-path efficiency ÷ Estimated machine watts = Estimated runtime hours

Battery energy

The EXP48PRO uses 153.6Wh of usable LiFePO4 cell capacity. The EXP96PRO uses 307.2Wh. Runtime is calculated separately for each battery.

Machine consumption

Where manufacturers publish operating-current or battery-runtime tests, the calculator uses those results. When a manufacturer publishes only maximum adapter ratings, the calculator uses a clearly labeled platform estimate rather than treating the adapter maximum as normal use.

Planning range

Results include a ±15% planning range. Actual use changes with breathing pattern, mask leak, altitude, ambient temperature, pressure changes and accessory settings.

What changes CPAP battery life?

The machine name is only one part of the calculation. These settings can materially change the number of hours available.

Therapy pressure

Higher pressure usually requires more blower power. APAP users should enter their 95th-percentile pressure when available.

IPAP and EPAP

Bilevel, BiPAP, ASV, ST and iVAPS machines use separate inhalation and exhalation pressures. Enter both values instead of using one broad pressure range.

Heated humidification

Heating water can use more energy than the blower. Turning the humidifier off is often the largest available runtime improvement.

Heated tubing

A heated hose adds another electrical load. The effect varies with tube temperature and the difference between room and tube temperature.

DC cord or inverter

A compatible EXP PRO DC cord avoids the extra DC-to-AC conversion step. An inverter and factory AC adapter generally reduce available runtime.

Leaks and environment

Mask leaks, high altitude, cold conditions and automatic pressure changes can increase the work the machine performs during the night.

Test the complete setup at home

Use the calculator for planning, then run your actual machine, mask, cord and settings from a fully charged battery before a trip or outage.

  1. Fully charge the EXP PRO battery.
  2. Connect the same CPAP cord and settings you plan to use.
  3. Disconnect other devices from the battery.
  4. Run at least one normal night and record the remaining percentage.
  5. Leave additional capacity for leaks, colder weather or longer sleep.

CPAP battery runtime FAQ

How many nights will the EXP48PRO run my CPAP?

It depends on the exact machine, therapy pressure, climate settings, connection method and hours slept. Enter those values in the calculator for a model-specific range. Heated humidification and an AC inverter can shorten runtime substantially.

How long will the EXP96PRO power a BiPAP machine?

Bilevel runtime depends on both IPAP and EPAP, as well as the therapy mode. Select the exact BiPAP or bilevel model and enter both prescribed pressures. ST, ASV, AVAPS and iVAPS modes may consume more power because they can provide timed or variable pressure support.

Which pressure should I enter for an APAP machine?

Use the 95th-percentile pressure from your therapy report when available. If you only know the prescribed minimum and maximum, entering the upper end provides a more conservative planning estimate.

Should a BiPAP user enter IPAP or EPAP?

Enter both. IPAP is the inhalation pressure and EPAP is the exhalation pressure. The calculator uses both values because the difference between them affects the machine's work and estimated power consumption.

How much runtime do the humidifier and heated hose use?

The exact effect varies by machine, room conditions and heat setting, but climate features can consume more energy than the blower. Switch on the humidifier and heated-hose controls in the calculator to compare the estimated difference for your setup.

Why does a DC cord provide more runtime than an AC inverter?

A CPAP machine ultimately operates on DC power. A compatible DC cord sends regulated battery power to the machine with fewer conversion steps. An inverter first converts battery power to AC, and the factory adapter converts it back to DC, losing energy at both stages.

Why is the result shown as a range?

No calculator can know the exact airflow, leaks, temperature, altitude or automatic pressure changes that will occur overnight. The range is more useful than a single promise and should be confirmed with an at-home test.

Which CPAP power cord do I need?

The correct cord depends on the machine connector and operating voltage. Use the CPAP DC power-cord collection and the EXP PRO connection guide. Confirm the voltage before connecting a machine.
